Upon completion of this course participants will have gained the knowledge and skill to effectively conduct investigative interviews with witnesses or offenders in a skilled and effective manner. This will include the ability to take interview notes, convert notes to a formal statement suitable for court submission, and conduct a formal record of interview.

Target Audience: This course is designed for any officer who may be required conduct interviews or obtain statements in response to an incident or complaint, or as part of an audit or routine inspection. (e.g. Regional Officers, Rangers, Compliance Officers, Environmental Officers, Health and Building Inspectors; etc).


Learning Outcomes:

On this two-day course, participants will:

  • Gain knowledge regarding memory and its effects on the interview process;
  • Demonstrate an ability to use appropriate questioning techniques;
  • Demonstrate their knowledge of the legislative provisions regarding the conduct of interviews;
  • Demonstrate their ability to apply the PEACE model of interviewing;
  • Demonstrate their ability to challenge appropriately;
  • Gain knowledge regarding the rules of evidence regarding witness statements;
  • Giving oral evidence in court, including appropriate courtroom communication skills.
